LIHUE — A former beekeeper has been ordered to pay the hospital bill of his neighbor who was stung.

The Garden Island reports (https://bit.ly/1OwAiex ) that bee-allergic Luis Soltren was awarded $2,457 to cover court costs, an ambulance ride and his share on a fence he constructed between neighbors’ properties.

Soltren was stung in June 2014. He says his allergy is so severe there is little difference to him between a bee and a bullet.

The neighbor, Kauai police officer Jesse Castro says he was in the process of removing the hives when Soltren later complained to the county about permitting. He says it wasn’t one of his bees that stung Soltren.
